Grand Bahama Religious Historical SitesGrand Bahama Places Of Worship

Grand Bahama is known as a tropical paradise with caves, nature walks and awe inspiring gardens and natural habitats.  You are invited to explore yet another facet of this eco-friendly Island - its spiritual element - It’s The Bahamas, “the place where God lives.”  Visit one of our sites listed below.

St. Stephen's Anglican Church

St. Stephen's Anglican Parish first opened its doors in January of 1851 in Eight Mile Rock, Grand Bahama.  St. Stephen was the first Anglican church to be built on the Island.  In the latter part of 1899, a  hurricane on Grand Bahama devastated the church of St. Stephen leaving only one or two walls and the foundation.  Two years later the church was rebuilt and on December 25th, 1901, the new church was consecrated.  The current edifice has been renovated and extended over the years by a succession of Parish Priests and Bishops.

Worship Services include Sunday Mass at 7:00a.m. & 10:00 a.m. and evensong at 7:00 p.m.

Grand Bahama Labyrinth - at the Garden of the Groves

One of Grand Bahama's newest attractions, Grand Bahama Labyrinth,  is a religious site within the popular tourist attraction Garden of The Groves, Freeport/Lucaya. The Labyrinth is a re-creation and replica of an ancient sacred path of the early Christian labyrinth built in accordance with Sacred Geometry in 1201 in the Medieval Cathedral of Notre Dame de Chartres, France.  The historical labyrinth had served as a path to provide a symbolic way to fulfill the early Christian religious requirements of a pilgrimage to the Holy City of Jerusalem.

Founded and created in 2008, The Grand Bahama Labyrinth  is said to be a sacred tool of healing, "designed to calm the mind with focus, stillness and contemplation relating to the wholeness and perfection of creation".  On the labyrinth, each path leads to the center.  The labyrinth is set in a corner of Garden of the Groves - internationally known for its wide variety of native and exotic species of plant life that attracts a wide array of birds and butterflies.

Visitors of all faiths are invited to walk the Labyrinth at any time during the Garden of the Grove's visiting hours.  Hoowever, GBL walks are facilitated on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00 am - 4:00 pm or appointment.  Additionally a weekly meditation is held at the Labyrinth each Wednesday at 8:45 a.m.

Garden of The Groves is located at the eastern end of Midshipman Road with entry on Magellan Drive, Freeport /Lucaya.
